Sing - A - Poem

Sing this poem to the tune of "On Top of Old Smoky."  Part of the fun of singing a poem is that it fits the tune, but not quite exactly.  So singing this funny poem to a funny tune will make for a fun poetry break.

If I Eat More Candy

If I eat more candy . . .
My teeth will fall out.
My gums will turn green
Like the rest of my mouth.
The dentist will drill me,
While I scream in pain,
A dozen long holes
That spill into my brain.
The stench of my breath
Will kill birds in the air --
But
This candy's so good
That I really don't care!

Extension

After singing this poem through a few more times, have the kids draw pictures of what will happen to people who eat too much candy.  Or, have them invent their own type of candy, drawing a picture and writing a description.  Be prepared for some *crazy* drawings!
